Antigua to Bermuda Ocean Race

The Antigua to Bermuda Ocean Race offers close to 1,000 miles of tropical Atlantic sailing between two spectacular islands. Launching from the familiar waters of Antigua, we’ll be out of sight of land until reaching Bermuda, enjoying spectacular sailing, wide open horizons and star studded night skies along the way.

As an added bonus, we’ll be landing in Bermuda right before the adrenaline-fueled SailGP kicks off there, so racing enthusiasts can have their cake and eat it too!! Our crew can stay aboard during SailGP (first come first served for reserving bunks), and have the option to continue onwards with our Bermuda to Newport Passage, or fly home from Bermuda.

More about our race…

Typical weather patterns deliver fast reaching conditions for the majority of the way, an optimal angle for Panacea X and her big genoa! It’s not all fun and games, as the boats typically enter a band of light winds that are often found before landing in Bermuda.

While this is a race, scoring under the Caribbean Sailing Association rules permits motoring (which counts against your cumulative time), providing a nice option for a long passage with some light wind expected. The event is also scored under the more widely known and strict IRC rating rule, which doesn’t allow motoring, so we’ll find a suitable balance between sticking to our competitive goals without over-committing to aimless bobbing if we do encounter prolonged light winds!

The fleet is diverse and usually fairly small, making for a fun, close-knit social environment for the launch and welcoming parties in the islands. Some years include famous maxi yachts alongside us more standard-issue sailors. Racing in a fleet not only provides a great element of competition and focus for a longer passage like this, but also acts as an important safety net with other boats relatively close by in the otherwise wide open ocean.

Crew should expect to be fully involved in the preparations in Antigua, and helping Panacea get cleaned up and settled in once we land in Bermuda. Underway, everyone will take turns with food prep, standing watches, and keeping everything shipshape for a safe and successful passage.

Pre-Requisites

  • Considerable prior sailing experience including standing watches offshore and at night is required.

  • Prior racing experience is strongly recommended, prior experience with spinnaker is required (although this is not typically a downwind race, we need to have the skills to manage it if conditions dictate).

  • Reasonable level of physical strength and fitness. We strongly recommend preparing for the race by hitting the weights and/or resistance training for good core and upper body strength, as well as working on endurance through cardio training. Bermuda to Newport Ocean Passage

Sailing from Bermuda to Newport offers a challenging 600 miles of open ocean sailing. Experiencing the change of conditions from tropical Bermuda, across the Gulf Stream and towards springtime in Rhode Island is a unique experience for those looking to push their boundaries and develop a true breadth of sailing skills.

While this passage is not part of a race, we are likely to be sailing around the same time as other participants of the Antigua to Bermuda race, most of whom are continuing on towards Newport. This offers us all a nice little additional safety net for the passage.

More about the passage…

The weather at this time of year offers a fair number of good weather windows for the passage, and we will aim to slot into one of these. Expected conditions in a good weather window, would be a fast reach with following seas from Bermuda to the Gulf Stream (the major northbound current, carrying warm water from the Caribbean up the East Coast).

Once in the Gulf Stream, it’s like being on a moving sidewalk, rapidly tracking us north- a ride we can gratefully accept as that’s where we’re trying to go! Approaching the coast of the USA brings us into increasing marine traffic, tides and of course gets us to the eagerly anticipated landfall in Newport- all of which offers phenomenal training opportunities, particularly for intermediate to advanced sailors.

Crew should expect to be fully involved in the preparations in Bermuda, and helping Panacea get cleaned up and settled in once we land in Newport. Underway, everyone will take turns with food prep, standing watches, and keeping everything shipshape for a safe and successful passage.

Marblehead to Halifax Offshore Mileage Builder

1 spot left!

Crossing the Gulf of Maine offers some serious offshore mileage in a challenging body of water, known for being highly tidal and subject to mixed weather conditions. This is a great opportunity to gain 350nm of experience with advanced passage planning, navigation, meteorology and all the other hallmarks of a true offshore voyage.

Before our departure from Marblehead, we’ll be doing a full day of planning together. This includes in depth offshore safety training as well as an overview of using Expedition weather routing software. Sailors looking to build their offshore skills and knowledge base will benefit hugely from the scope of this trip, all while enjoying the historic maritime culture prevalent at both ends of the trip in Marblehead and Halifax.

More about the passage…

Confession: we do have an ulterior motive for this passage, and it’s not just to show up in Halifax in time for SailGP! The famous Marblehead to Halifax race isn’t being held until 2027… but we’re going to go walk the course, so to speak. Getting the lay of the land will help us prepare for the real deal, while also offering some excellent offshore mileage between two iconic East Coast ports!

Panacea X will be moored just outside of Marblehead itself, so that we can have her on a dock for final preparations for the passage (most likely in nearby Beverly or possibly Salem). Details on precise joining location will be distributed to crew once the relevant marinas have opened for 2026 bookings.

2026 Preliminary Schedule

June 13: Join Panacea X in the morning, exact location TBD. Crew meet & greet and preparations

June 14: Safety briefing, drills, passage planning

June 15: Intended departure date, weather permitting

June 19: Latest landfall in Halifax

SailGP Halifax is happening June 20-21

Pre-Requisites

  • Prior sailing experience is required, to a Day Skipper level at a minimum, and night sailing or prior offshore experience is recommended.

  • Additional training, such as Safety at Sea / Sea Survival / STCW and first aid to at least a Standard level is recommended but not required.

  • Reasonable level of physical strength and fitness.

Chester Race Week

This iconic event is one of the longest running sailing regattas in Canada and the biggest! Last year’s event drew a fleet of almost 130 yachts, and we can’t wait to join them in August 2026.

With a mix of windward-leeward ‘round the cans’ and distance courses, Chester Race Week offers a great balance of tight maneuvering and longer tactical legs- perfect for showcasing crew skill development. Panacea X will have 2 days of training for crew to get up to speed before we launch into the 4 day event.

Nova Scotian hospitality is legendary, and Chester Yacht Club takes their shoreside atmosphere seriously. Food trucks, live music daily, and a horde of friendly sailors guarantees a good time before and after racing each day.

Panacea X has spent the last 4 years climbing up the leaderboard in every event in the Caribbean. This will be our first regatta in North America, and we’re looking to bring the heat! Our race skipper and first mate provide top-notch coaching to turn individual sailors into a tight knit crew. Not only does this make us competitive around the race track, but it also makes for an awesome team atmosphere on shore!
