BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival

Caribbean Racing Circuit

The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival has rapidly earned a spot at the top of the Caribbean circuit when it comes to offering the full package of champagne sailing conditions, competitive racing, wide variety in courses, and a high energy shoreside atmosphere as Nanny Cay Marina & Resort transforms into a race village for the event. Panacea X has a history of very strong performances here, having won the Scrub Island Invitational, Round Tortola Race and the BVI Regatta itself! Can we pull off another romp to the top of the podium in 2027?

The BVIs are made up of 64 different islands, providing a real playground for race organizers to send us on some spectacular, challenging courses during 5 days of racing!

After two days of training to get us up to speed,, the Sailing Festival portion of the event starts with the Scrub Island Invitational. This is a relatively short ‘middle distance’ race, consisting of a short beat around some beautiful islands and then a tight reach to Scrub Island resort for lunch and prizes. We had back to Nanny Cay in the afternoon and prepare for day 2: the Round Tortola Race. A longer course gives us a lot more room to play, usually with a glorious long spinnaker run around the northern end of the island and down the whole west side.

Lay day is well-deserved, and gives crews a great opportunity to explore the island, or just relax on the beach. Friday through Sunday will see us competing in the Spring Regatta portion of events round-the-cans racing and high adrenaline starts.

As with all Sea to Sky racing, we will be as competitive as we can be together as a team, but safety will of course always come first by a long shot, followed by providing a positive environment where everyone can enjoy the experience. Expect to be pushed to achieve your best, to expand your skill set and truly challenge yourself, with ongoing support from your skipper and first mate.

Typical Conditions

Many people describe the BVIs as the most beautiful part of the Caribbean. How you rank exquisite islands with perfect turquoise waters and some of the best sailing conditions in the world, we’re not entirely sure, but we’re not disagreeing! Conditions are typical steady breeze and fairly flat water compared to the rest of the Caribbean. Perfect for highly competitive racing!

Location & Logistics

Panacea X will be docked in Nanny Cay Marina with the rest of the race fleet. Crew require their own accommodation on shore- and those who book early have a good chance of getting one of the coveted and convenient rooms in Nanny Cay itself. Other accommodation is generally a bit farther than a comfortable walk, requiring scooter or car rental or taxi rides… so book early!!

Getting to/from the BVIs can be a logistical and financial challenge, depending on where you are coming from. We are working on our delivery schedule, and may be able to offer an optional add-on of sailing in/out of the BVIs with Panacea X.
