CARIBBEAN RACING CIRCUIT
Barbados Sailing Week boasts some of the most consistently fantastic sailing conditions in the Caribbean. Big wind, big waves, big smiles all ‘round! With three days of ‘round the cans’ racing in Carlisle Bay, TWO relaxing lay days to explore on shore, and a final day of racing the whole way round this beautiful island in open ocean conditions, this regatta is a favourite.

Pre-Requisites
Prior sailing experience is required, and some racing experience is preferred. BSW is a great event for sailors of all levels, and we encourage those who are relatively new to racing or looking to expand their skill set into different roles to join us for this one.
Reasonable level of physical strength and fitness. Core strength is of particular importance to avoid injury.

Event Overview
Barbados Sailing Week is a smaller event on the main Caribbean Racing Circuit, usually with a fairly wide rating split in our class and Panacea X being one of the faster boats in the class. This means that although the conditions tend to be spicy, we are under less time pressure as the fleet spreads out quickly and we can usually sail our own race.
This is an ideal opportunity for less experienced racers to join us for some fun in the sun, developing racing skills in a low pressure environment. For more experienced racers, it is a great event to get a real taste of Caribbean racing in heavier conditions, without the high intensity of some of the bigger fleet events.
As with all Sea to Sky racing, we will be as competitive as we can be together as a team, but safety will of course always come first by a long shot, followed by providing a positive learning environment where everyone can develop their skills and enjoy the experience. Expect to be pushed to achieve your best, to expand your skill set and truly challenge yourself, with ongoing support from your skipper and first mate.
Typical Conditions
Conditions in Carlisle Bay (on the leeward side of the island) are fantastic with flat water, great breeze, and interesting shifts to keep us on our tactical toes. Did we mention glorious warm sunshine- in January?! Conditions for the Round Barbados race get a lot more intense, as we sail counterclockwise around the island, and run the windward (and wild!!) east coast all the way around infamous Ragged Point.
Location & Logistics
Panacea X will be on a mooring in Carlisle Bay for the duration of the regatta. Crew need their own accommodation on shore. We will do beach pickups/dropoffs by dinghy each morning. There is excellent bus service all along the coast road, and Uber has just arrived on the island making private transportation easy.
