This hugely popular summer race is in its 31st year and promises to be just as much fun as ever. With a single start for all divisions, the Round Bowen Race boasts the largest starting fleet on the West Coast. Most years there are over 100 boats on the line, jockeying for room and raring to go. Circumnavigating Bowen Island gives us a unique opportunity to enjoy our beautiful local waters and play the challenging wind shadows and tidal eddies along the way. The dock party in Snug Cove at the end of the day is possibly the best of any Vancouver based race.
Race organizers use proceeds to support the Learn to Sail program at Bowen Island Yacht Club. Great racing and promoting sail training for kids? Count us in!
At just under 20 nautical miles, the Round Bowen Race is a pleasant day sail. Race organizers decide the morning of the event which way around the island they will send us, based on the weather conditions of the day. The huge start line is roughly between Snug Cove and Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver, leaving tons of space for the huge fleet to careen around in pre-start maneuvers.

What to Bring & What to Expect?

While we aim to sail our very best on the race course, we offer a fun and supportive learning environment. No enraged skipper shouting at the crew. No grim silence as the crew plots a mutiny. No fits of depression if we don't beat all the other boats. The Sea to Sky race team is all about improving our own performance both individually and as a team, and doing our best to make every race a positive experience.
