Our first Quicker Crew Course gets a taste of Wet Coast winter sailing

Our first Quicker Crew course saw three intrepid young students try out keelboat racing for the first time ever. We had one day of training with some nice gentle wind that allowed us to practice tacking, get used to handling the winches, and give everyone a turn on the tiller. The sun even peeked out for a few minutes!

The next day was race day- and it was a whole different story. Torrential freezing rain and strong winds made for a very challenging sail that almost lived up to the name of the race ('Snowflake Series'). Brrrrr- batten down the hatches! Our Quicker Crew handled it all brilliantly and learned a lot about sail trim and working together to keep the boat going quickly and safely around the race course.

This video gives you a peek at our weekend, although it does not at all do justice to the sheets of freezing rain we sailed through on race day!

We're looking forward to the next Quicker Crew course coming up on November 14th & 15th.  It's full already, but if you're looking for a great way to spend a weekend on the water learning a new and exciting skill, check out our other course dates from January through to March.  Remember: all ages welcome, with a 20% discount for 16-25 year olds!

See you on the water,
Katy
